These birds come to our region in Germany only in Winter, when it is too cold for them Scandinavia and other parts of Northern Europe, where they breed.

A smallish thrush with mostly brown plumage. The belly is white with brown speckles, a white stripe goes from the beak over the eye to the back of its head. Under the wing is an orange-red stripe, which gives it its name. The bird is perched on a bush with red berries.
